IDOP — Indirect Object Pronouns (gustar / encantar / faltar)

Three verbs (gustar, encantar, faltar) that ONLY conjugate in 3rd person, paired with the 6 IDOP pronouns (me, te, le, nos, os, les).

The rules

  • Formula: [A + emphatic pronoun/name] + IDOP + verb + subject(s). The bracketed part is optional.
  • Option A (singular -a): one noun or an infinitive — 'Me gusta el libro' / 'Me gusta bailar'.
  • Option B (plural -an): two or more nouns — 'A Leif le faltan dos bolígrafos y una mochila'.
  • Affirmative vs negative connectors are set pieces: use 'y' / 'o' affirmatively, 'ni' / 'ni…ni…' negatively.
  • IDOP rule: NEVER 'yo gusto'. Always pair the indirect object pronoun with the 3rd-person verb.
