Framework

El verbo IR (To Go)

Fully irregular. Three uses: literal 'to go', going to a place (ir + al/a la), and near future (ir + a + infinitivo).

The rules

  • Use #1 — Plain 'to go': Yo voy mucho. Tú vas conmigo.
  • Use #2 — Going to a place: Ir + al / a la / a los / a las + lugar. Contractions match gender/number of the place.
  • Use #3 — Near future (futuro simple): Ir + a + infinitivo. Means 'will / shall + verb'. Use for tonight, tomorrow — events less than ~1 year away.
  • Contractions: al (a + el, masc. sing.), a la (fem. sing.), a los (masc. pl.), a las (fem. pl.).
  • Reminder: in Spanish, double 'n's don't exist — write innecesario as innecesario (rare exception), but most double letters from English don't carry over.
