The rules

  • Singular: yo (I), tú (informal you), él (he), ella (she), usted/Ud. (formal you).
  • Plural: nosotros/-as (we), vosotros/-as (informal you all — Spain only), ellos/-as (they), ustedes/Uds. (formal you all in Spain; both formal and informal in Latin America).
  • 3rd person pronouns can refer to ideas, concepts, objects, or things — not just people.
